Management Gita: Pausing for Perspective
atha vyavasthitāndṛṣṭvā dhārtarāṣṭrān kapidhvajaḥ
pravṛtte śastrasampāte dhanurudyamya pāṇḍavaḥ
hṛṣīkeśaṃ tadā vākyamidamāha mahīpate 1-20
Spiritual Context
Seeing the Kauravas arrayed and weapons about to clash, Arjuna, with his monkey-ensigned banner, lifts his bow and speaks to Krishna, signaling the start of introspection.
Management Context
This reflects situational awareness, decision readiness, and ethical reflection. Arjuna’s pause before action highlights a leader’s need to assess and consult before proceeding.
Insights
Reflective pauses improve decision quality (Schön, 1983). This aligns with ethical leadership under pressure (Brown & Treviño, 2006).
Applications
Managers can practice reflective decision-making or consultative leadership before critical moves (Heifetz, 1994).
